Nov 1, 2007 - ICEsoft Helps Java AJAX Developers Keep Cool

Ajax, Web 2.0 & Beyond - SD Times

Teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry. Tell programmers that they'll have to go through any kind of a learning curve to reap the benefits of a new developer tool, however, and they'll just might leave it on the shelf. That's because all too often, new tools and paradigms create project delays. Fortunately, at ICEsoft they know that new tools and technologies have to be both easy to learn and easy to use, and that's what you get in ICEfaces, their AJAX solution for Java EE.

December 12, 2005 - In The News Startups Board the AJAX Bandwagon

By Clint Boulton - InternetNews.com

It's a brave new world of software programming out there, and AJAX is the agent being used to deliver a clean look for more interactive, yet seamless desktop computing. AJAX, short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a programming approach that uses a number of programming languages and technologies together, including HTML or XHTML, JavaScript, the Document Object Model and XML.

When these technologies are combined in the AJAX model, Web applications can make speedy updates to the user interface without reloading the entire browser page. Microsoft has garnered its share of attention for promising to use AJAX to underpin Windows Live. Google has made a splash for using it for its Maps and Gmail applications. But startups are also realizing that server-side technologies are taking off, and are moving swiftly to provide alternative options. Read the full news article.

ICEsoft and Nexaweb wax where the browser wanes

Product: Nexaweb 3.2: ICEbrowser SDK 6.0
Reviewed: November 12, 2004
By: Peter Wayner - (Source: infoworld)

ICEbrowser SDK 6.0 and Nexaweb 3.2 leverage the power of Web standards while overcoming their limitations

Web browsers are wonderfully ubiquitous, but they offer substandard user interfaces because they do little to anticipate what the user might want. Most clicks require a round-trip to some distant server over a sometimes dodgy Internet. To make matters worse, the browser is beholden to the user, not the developer. It often prevents the server from doing much except displaying images, a bit of text, and maybe a fancy bit of multimedia -- and then, only if the right plug-in is installed.

Two companies, ICEsoft Technologies and Nexaweb, offer Web application developers another option. Both offer tools for building more fully powered Web clients that behave similar to browsers but offer developers deeper control. Their tools take radically different approaches and aren't direct competitors, although they might be used to solve some of the same problems. Read the full article.

October 29, 2004 - ICEsoft Releases ICEbrowser SDK 6.0.2 / ICEreader SDK 6.0.2

ICEsoft Technologies Inc., the leading provider of Java browser and Java Web access software, today announced the release of ICEbrowser SDK 6.0.2 and ICEreader SDK 6.0.2. ICEbrowser SDK and ICEreader SDK are now officially supported on JDK 1.5.0.

Both products now support rendering documents in non-visual and headless Java environments. Previously, documents containing embedded IFrames or Framesets were not fully supported in a non-visual context. Now you can use ICEbrowser or ICEreader in headless server-side deployments, such as an HTML to image service.

Improvements have been made to printing and print preview so that Frameset documents can be printed and previewed as laid out on the screen or with each frame printed to a separate page.

In ICEbrowser, Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) emulation mode has been enhanced to replicate the MSIE-specific behavior of the getElementById() and getElementByName() functions.

A number of other enhancements and minor fixes have also been made in this release. For details, see the Release Notes.

October 2004 Newsletter

Are the browser wars back? Well, from our perspective they never ended. One view is that the community had to wait for the IE monopoly and the Microsoft anti-trust suit to work its way through the system. Another is that although this may be topical in the consumer space, enterprise developers have always been deploying the “right” mission-critical client for the job, regardless of what Microsoft says.

Either way, browsers are in the news again and designers will increasingly have to take the needs of a “Rich” heterogeneous client environment into consideration. And as all native browsers continue to be plagued by security breaches, Java browsers demonstrate inherent security crucial in enterprise applications. Secure customizable browsers, JavaServer Faces, and standards-based client solutions will be important considerations in the coming years. Read the full newsletter.

We’ll be busy through the summer following up. The ICEpdf product has also seen significant customer interest and is being incorporated into a number of existing ICEbrowser installations. Thanks again.

Encouraging feedback from the show and in public articles below has to do with security concerns around IE and the inherent security of Java SDK’s, such as ICEbrowser. We believe that as enterprise web applications continue to proliferate, security will be an overriding concern. The roll out of Web Services will only make this requirement more urgent, most likely lead to further standards evolution. Web client security is a central benefit of ICEsoft products and a key element in our future product road map. Look for more in future product releases. Read the full newsletter.
